Apple is finally building out a real smart home lineup, and it has found an unusual partner to get there. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports Apple worked with LG Electronics on seven new devices covering a doorbell, three cameras, a smart lock, a thermostat and a temperature sensor, all set to roll out around Apple's October 13 hardware event.
What makes this arrangement unusual is branding. Despite Apple shaping design, features and engineering behind the scenes, Gurman notes these products will sell under the LG name, not Apple's. LG is handling manufacturing and customer support, a setup Apple has quietly used before with companies like Belkin and Logitech.
