Antonio Conte 'wants' to sign striker this month as Tottenham suffer major transfer blow

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Friday, January 28.

Belotti interest

Transfer guru Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is keen to bring in a centre-forward before Monday night's deadline, with Torino frontman Andrea Belotti high up the Italian coach's wishlist.

“I think Belotti would be pretty high up Spurs’ wanted list,” O’Rourke wrote on GiveMeSport.

“Because Conte does want a striker in before the window closes if possible.”

Belotti, who is into the final six months of his contract with the Turin-based side, boasts an excellent goalscoring record over the years, netting 107 goals and providing a further 28 assists in 238 games for the Serie A side.

Poyet prediction

Former Tottenham midfielder Gus Poyet has claimed that his old side can finish in the top four if Daniel Levy backs Antonio Conte in the transfer window before Monday's deadline.

"If you back him [Conte], I'm not saying back him with crazy money but back him in a way that you bring in players with characteristics that he wants, I think he will finish top four, no doubt," Poyet said when speaking to bettingexpert.

"Antonio is going to tell you how it is. What is white is white, what is black is black.

"He said that the team is not good enough to compete against the top teams and he wants better players.

"You give me better players - easier. You don't give me, I keep working. And that's the truth. People don't like it, especially nowadays where we're living in a world where we cannot say the truth.

"If he finishes top four, it will be amazing, no doubt. 100 percent sure."

Traore blow

Spurs have been linked with a move for Wolves winger Adama Traore for the majority of the January transfer window, however, the Lilywhites have now been handed a major blow in their pursuit of the Spaniard.

According to The Athletic, Traore is unwilling to play as a wing-back in Conte's preferred 3-4-3 set-up, meaning a move to N17 seems far less likely than before.

Now, a plethora of reports claim that Catalan giants Barcelona have since reacted quickly and are closing in on a move for the La Masia academy graduate.
