Antonio Conte is hopeful that Matt Doherty's knee injury won't sideline him for long as Tottenham push hard for Champions League qualification.
Ireland boss Stephen Kenny will be monitoring the situation closely as he plans on Doherty being a key figure in June, when the Nations League is due to start although the four fixtures pencilled in against Ukraine, Scotland and Armenia are expected to change.
Doherty, 30, suffered the injury in a challenge with Aston Villa's Matty Cash during Spurs' 4-0 victory on Saturday. The Dubliner was replaced by Sergio Reguilon in the 21st minute.
“I hope nothing serious, I hope," said Spurs boss Conte afterwards.
“The doctors are going to check on him tomorrow. I hope nothing serious because he wanted to try to continue to play but then at the end he preferred to come out.
“I hope so because Matthew is an important player for us and I hope this injury is not serious.”
Doherty has enjoyed a superb turnaround under the Italian's guidance, prompting Conte to describe him as "an example to everyone".
Conte's tactical switch to using wing-backs has turned the former Wolves stalwart into an important first team player - he has started the last seven Premier League games.
His promotion to the side has coincided with a transformation in Tottenham's fortunes as they have displaced Arsenal in fourth place in the race in the table and in the race for that coveted Champions League berth.
