Antonio Conte has already been told why Adama Traore would be ideal at Tottenham with deal close

Antonio Conte has been told why Adama Traore would be an ideal player at Tottenham, as the move for the Wolves man seems to be getting closer.

Traore is a quick player with a strong build and has been linked with a move to north London for a while, but the interest has split the opinion of fans.

The Spaniard has these positive qualities but would be coming to Spurs as a wing-back and in Wolves' 3-1 victory over Southampton, although he scored, he had just one cross in the game and it wasn't an accurate one.

The Lilywhites currently have four wing-backs and their attacking flair is what needs improving in that role, and if that isn't something Traore can bring, there are questions over if the move would be effective.

On Thursday, football.london reported that Tottenham had made a £15m bid for the 25-year-old, which was rejected and in Bruno Lage's pre-match press conference on Friday he gave an update on the status of his player.

"I don't really know how much they offered - I don't really know if they did any offer," he said. "I don't talk about money.

"But I can see we have a top player with us, and we believe a lot in Adama. He is a lovely guy and I'm happy with him.

"Sometimes it's about business. Remember how much Tottenham protected Harry Kane earlier this season to stay with them? I will protect my players because, for me, their value is very high."

This would indicate that a deal won't come easily for the Lilywhites, but The Athletic are now reporting that talks have begun between the two sides and a deal looks more likely than not.

The report also suggests that the asking price is around £20million and there is no prospect of Traore signing a new contract at his current club.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has also reported that Fabio Paratici has wanted the Spaniard since last summer and Spurs are expected to push to make the deal happen in the coming hours/days, as they continue to work on outgoings.

Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have been occupying the right wing-back position so far this season and apart from his solid display against Leicester, it has been the former who has been given the nod most frequently.

Emerson has dealt with much of what has been thrown at him defensively, but has struggled to add the much-needed creativity in the attacking half of the pitch.

Despite some concerns over the Spaniard's attacking ability, if he were to move to Tottenham, former player John Barnes has given his verdict on the Wolves player.

"Adama Traore would add to Tottenham’s team and the way they play," Barnes said, when speaking to BonusCodeBets. "A right-wing back won’t come in and win you the league. Kieran Trippier didn’t go to Newcastle to win them matches, he is there because of his experience and being a tough competitor.

"If Adama Traore is going to Spurs to be a wing-back, he’s not coming in to be a superstar like Harry Kane or Lucas Moura, but he has the energy to do the job. He can get up and down the pitch, he can get crosses in, and he certainly has the quality to play in that role.

"He [Traore] would be coming to help implement a style that the manager wants, similar to Victor Moses at Chelsea.

"He wouldn’t be going to Spurs to be a superstar footballer like a Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo or Heung-Min Son. They are the ones who will win the team matches.

"Traore is there to help them win matches without goals and assists, he can do that role."

If the Spaniard was to make the move to N17, there would be hope that he could contribute to both goals, assists and help add quality to the Tottenham side down the wing.

Inside the final two weeks of the January transfer window, it will now be a waiting game to see if the north London side can get any deals done, before deadline day.
