Antoine Semenyo 'scouted' by Celtic but Bristol City striker will 'cost awful lot of dough'

Premiership leaders Celtic reportedly watched Bristol City livewire Antoine Semenyo on Wednesday night against Reading.

The 22-year-old striker has netted six times this season but it's his all round game that has thrilled onlookers at Ashton Gate.

And Bristol World state Craig Strachan, son of former Celtic boss Gordon, ran the rule over the player who netted the opener during a 2-1 win.

Semenyo has earned admiring glances from a host of English Premier League sides and has 18 months left on his current deal with the option to extend by a further season.

And the interest in the forward comes after boss Nigel Pearson insisted he will not lose his electric forward on the cheap.

He said: "We're very glad we have him and if somebody else wants him he's going to cost them an awful lot of dough so keep your hands off. We've got him for two-and-a-half years.

"It (the contract) never just looks after itself. Of course, we want to retain his services for as long as we can. He's currently got a year-and-a-half left with a year's option in our favour so we've got him for two-and-a-half years to at least persuade him to stay, whether that materialises or not I can't give you a definitive answer.

"But we have time to work on those possibilities but I can't speak for other people's intentions and it will take a lot of money to get him out the building."

Celtic appear well stocked in attacking positions but English lower league football has been a fruitful market over the past 15 years, with Matt O'Riley the latest to make an impact after his January switch from MK Dons.
