Anthropic researcher resigns, citing fear that AI ‘could kill us all’ by the end of the decade: ‘No other human activity poses this level of danger’

A former researcher at Anthropic has officially resigned while delivering a chilling assessment of the industry. Jacob Coxon, who has worked at both Anthropic and OpenAI, claims that the people building advanced artificial intelligence genuinely believe it could destroy humanity by the end of this decade, The Hill reported.

Coxon made his thoughts clear on X this Tuesday, insisting that his departure and public statement are not part of some calculated marketing strategy. He noted that while executives and senior researchers often use careful, polished language when speaking to the press, he has heard those same people express real fear in private settings. He stated, “The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade,” and added, “No other human activity poses this level of danger.”
