Rousing reception for Martinez
Lisandro Martinez was treated to a standing ovation from teammates and fans as he greeted United fans for the first time since Argentina’s World Cup triumph. Supporters delivered a class gesture as the teams walked out, unfurling a huge Argentina flag in recognition of the defender’s Qatar accomplishment.
On the flag was a butcher's knife, in reference to the player's nickname 'The Butcher'. Martinez was named on the bench and came on in the dying embers to a raucous cheer.
Martial heads down tunnel after substitution
There was some concern over the status of Anthony Martial after the striker was taken off for a sixth game in a row. Following his substitution, the attacker headed not to the bench but instead straight down the tunnel.
The Frenchman appeared to take a knock to his face but Erik ten Hag moved to allay fears over another possible injury set-back to his No.9, and said he is hopeful the striker will be available for Friday's FA Cup meeting with Everton.
De Gea’s embrace with Lindelof
David de Gea made four key saves during the match to keep a 12th clean sheet of the season. After Shaw found the net, he and defender Victor Lindelof made sure to savour the moment together.
The pair enjoyed a big embrace to encapsulate the current mood around Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag. It was Lindelof’s first league clean sheet of the season.
United fans mock Bournemouth's stadium
United fans are always creative with their songs from the terraces. Tuesday night was no different with a portion of the Old Trafford faithful taking aim at Bournemouth’s reduced travelling contingent.
The ‘singing section’ was moved to the South East stand corner for the night amid the smaller number of visiting fans, prompting them to belt out a chant of 'one stand bigger than your ground'.
