Anthony Cacace vs Jonathan Romero OFF as Belfast fighter left "heartbroken" by late cancellation

Anthony Cacace has been left "heartbroken" after his fight with Jonathan Romero was cancelled on Wednesday.

The Belfast boxer was due to face former world champion Romero on the undercard of Tyson Fury's massive clash with Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium this Saturday night.

But on Wednesday it emerged the fight had been pulled from the card.

Cacace said on Twitter: "Actually can’t believe I'm writing this status. Been away from my children and home for 3 months only to be told that I will not be fighting on this show.

"What an absolute f****** kick in the teeth. Boxing's broke me many times but this time just feel shattered. F*** boxing!!"

Cacace added on his Facebook page: "Just wanna say thank you to all my sponsors because without you guys I truly couldn’t afford to box. Genuinely heartbroken here sorry if I let anyone down, I was here to do a job and wasn’t allowed to!"

It is the first time Cacace - who had flown to London on Tuesday - has been let down at late notice.

Last year he was left "heartbroken" after his eagerly anticipated match-up with Lyon Woodstock was shelved just two days out after his opponent tested positive for Covid.

He was originally due to fight Woodstock in the summer of 2020 but that was postponed after Cacace was hospitalised after suffering an infection following dental surgery.

This latest postponement means Saturday's undercard has been reduced to six fights with the feature attraction Isaac Lowe's clash with Nick Ball.

Tyson's brother Tommy will also return to action when he takes on Daniel Bocianski. Fury's sparring partner David Adeleye will also continue his own heavyweight career.
