Ant McPartlin has paid a touching tribute to his comedy partner's brother Father Dermott Donnelly who died at the age of 55.
Father Dermott Donnelly died on July 8 in hospital following a short illness. A statement shared by the diocese of Hexham and Newcastle said the death was a "great shock to all of us."
Declan Donnelly previously spoke out about how he was "deeply devastated" following the death of his brother. He wrote: "I am heartbroken to tell you that my darling brother Fr Dermott, @TweeterPriest, sadly passed away this afternoon. We are all beyond devastated. Thank you for your messages of sympathy and support, they are appreciated."

On Saturday, Ant McPartlin described Dermott Donnelly as the "kindest, wisest man." Taking to Twitter, he said: "Fr Dermott you were the kindest, wisest man I knew. Rest in peace my friend. You will never be forgotten. My thoughts, prayers and love are with your wonderful family. The world has lost a special man. X A."
Father Dermott is understood to have been a priest for 30 years. In 2015 he officiated at the wedding of his famous brother to Ali Astall in Newcastle in a star-studded ceremony. Celebrity friends and fans rushed to support the Geordie TV personality following news of his brother's death as tributes came pouring in.
Loose Women star Denise Welch said: "I’m so so sorry Declan. Your brother was a lovely, generous man who meant so much to the community he served." Heart's Kevin Hughes said: "I’m so sorry for your loss D. My deepest sympathies to you and all your family tonight x"
A statement from Hexham and Newcastle diocese on July 8 said: "It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of the death of Fr Dermott Donnelly, who died peacefully this afternoon in hospital. This has come as a great shock to all of us. Please pray for the repose of his soul and keep his family, especially his mother, in your prayers at this difficult time."
