Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway fans spot awkward audience confetti moment

Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway returned with a live studio audience for the first time in two years, with one guest getting more than they expected on Saturday night.

The live audience was welcomed back with open arms, after hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly had to ditch the crowd last year for social distancing, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The cheeky Geordie duo were visibly taken aback, as the crowd roared for them as they sped down to the stage.

Later on in the show, one of member of the audience unwittingly went on to became a bit of a social media sensation, thanks to an encounter with a piece of confetti.

Throughout the ITV show on Saturday night, Ant and Dec pranked presenter Jeremy Clarkson on his beloved Diddly Squat farm, as well as surprising one audience remember with a live on-air wedding.

But it was a confetti explosion after a prize-giving segment that really got viewers at home talking online.

As the studio audience clapped and cheered as the streamers of paper landed down on them, one gentlemen in a red shirt appeared to inhale a piece of confetti - almost choking in the process!

"Poor guy taking a mouthful of confetti on live TV #SaturdayNightTakeaway," one eagle-eyed viewer on Twitter wrote as the show aired on ITV.

Saturday Night's show was a welcome return to a live studio audience for the award-winning series once again.

"hope he’s ok x," one concerned fan queried online, as many pointed out the awkward incident.

There hasn't been a live audience for a full series since 2018, with the ITV show off air in 2019 and then having to ditch in-studio viewers for the following two years due to social distancing.

Part of the 2020 series was with an audience, before the hosts had to host the final episodes from their homes.

Chatting with Rylan and Alex Jones on The One Show earlier this week, Ant and Dec revealed the return of a live studio audience was something that excited them about the new series.

Saturday Night Takeaway's return comes just weeks after it was confirmed the Geordie pair's gameshow Limitless Win will be getting a second series, despite fans branding it 'complicated'.

While Limitless Win may have divided some viewers, there's no doubt that Saturday Night Takeaway is an undisputed massive hit with all fans.

The primetime TV show has been one of the most consistent ratings winners of the last 20 years for ITV and won multiple awards during its time on air.

"Ant and Dec have outdone themselves tonight. #SaturdayNightTakeaway," one fan wrote on Twitter after Saturday night's show saw the cheeky chappies performing in drag with RuPaul's Drag Race winners Lawrence Chaney and The Vivienne.

Another happy viewer added: "And that is why @antanddec win so many NTAs. Iconic."

*Saturday Night Takeaway airs Saturdays at 7pm on ITV.
