Martin Keown is the latest pundit to sing the praises of Bruno Guimaraes after his Newcastle United masterclass. Two goals in a 5-1 annihilation of Brentford are the latest in an evergrowing list of Toon highlights.
The Brazilian ignited the rout with a header following a meticulous set-piece routine. Just before the hour mark, Guimaraes scored a superb second, tackling Aaron Hickey on the halfway line before sprinting 30 yards and blasting a shot into the bottom corner.
Newcastle’s £35million January signing has wasted no time getting to grips with English football. His displays since the big-money move have triggered comparison debates about those who played in black and white from yesteryear.

Guimaraes was not known for his goalscoring prowess at Lyon, netting just three times in 71 games for the Ligue 1 outfit. However, Eddie Howe has helped the 24-year-old implement a ruthless streak in front of goal.
In 47 fewer appearances, Guimaraes has scored four more goals for his new club. Goals from midfield had been a struggle for Newcastle in recent times - but not anymore.
Former Arsenal defender Keown insists the Brazilian is “on another level” to those around him. He told BBC Sport : “We talk about top signings… Bruno is on another level. He is a top midfield player.
“He breaks from midfield and just tucks it into the corner (his second goal). He gives everything to the team. Those (Newcastle) fans love him. (It was a) wonderful strike.”
