Anne Hathaway Apologised To A Journalist After Their Awkward AF Interview Went Viral On TikTok

Queen of Genovia Anne Hathaway has apologised to journalist Kjersti Flaa after a brutal interview of the pair went gangbusters on TikTok. Honestly, after watching that interaction, brutal is probably the lightest adjective I could use to describe that excruciating watch.

Over the weekend, Hathaway began to gain traction on social media following the confirmation of The Princess Diaries 3, where we are more than likely going to see the Devil Wears Prada actor reprise her role as the relatable Mia Thermopolis.

However, amongst all the hullabaloo, journo Flaa dropped an old interview she had with Hathaway for the 2012 flick Les Misérables on TikTok.

Although usually when a journalist drops a snippet of a junket, the interviews are usually fun and casual. But for Flaa’s chat with Hathaway, it was the complete opposite. As a result, the snippet exploded on the platform, clocking more than 9.3 million views.

With Les Misérables being a musical, Flaa was hoping to kick start their interview in song. However, Hathaway immediately shut down that idea, telling the journalist, “Well I won’t be doing that but you’re more than welcome to sing.”

The video then jumps to Flaa asking Hathaway if she believed “people would sacrifice more for love back then than they do today”, to which Hathaway blankly stared at her, shook her head and said “No”.

In the last question, Flaa stayed on the topic of love, asking the actor if she remembered her first crush, to which she boringly replied: “No.”

As the video continued to clock views and likes, many folks called out Hathaway for her lacklustre behaviour. Others also noted how they were shocked by her attitude.

“Her answers aren’t rude it’s her tone and expression,” one person wrote.

“I don’t understand why they bother to agree with an interview,” a second person added.

“It’s so strange, usually Anne Hathaway is so sweet, why was she so angry?” a third asked.

On Wednesday (Aussie time), Flaa revealed she got an email from the Les Misérables actor, which featured an apology and why she was acting the way she was at the time.

“I have to say, I was pretty shocked. I had not expected her to reach out to me at all. I thought she was never going to even see that video, but she did,” the journo began.

“She sent me a long email explaining to me what she was going through right then, when she did this interview, and she apologized for giving me an awful interview. It was so touching to me.”

Flaa shared that she wouldn’t go into details as to why Hathaway reacted to her questions in that way, but said she understood why and thanked the actor for reaching out.

“I replied to her, and I said, ‘you know, I’m so grateful that you did this,’ and it means a lot to me that she did and I said, ‘you know, if you ever want to sit down and talk about it, I’m here,'” Flaa continued, revealing that Hathaway then invited to interview her for her next movie.

“I have so much respect for people who own up to their mistakes and say they’re sorry,” she continued.

“Sorry is such a powerful word.”

Hathaway herself has not publicly commented on the interview nor Flaa’s interview. However, fans joked in the journalist’s comment section, clowning the actor for apologising 12 years later.

Another person defended Hathaway, describing the email as a “class act”. (Image source: TikTok / Kjersti Flaa)

Look. As someone who runs on Filipino time, Hathaway’s apology was better late than never IMO.

That being said, Flaa is also the same journalist who was involved in that Blake Lively interview, who has yet to apologise for the interaction.

IYKYK.
