A documentary about the life and death of Anna Nicole Smith is set to premiere on Netflix next month.
Titled Anna Nicole Smith: You Don't Know Me, the feature promises "an unflinching and humanizing examination of the life, death and secrets" of the late mum-of-two.
Anna, who started her career as a Playboy magazine centerfold in the early 90s, died of a combined drug intoxication at the age of 39 in February 2007.
Over a decade on from her death, opinions about Anna - in particular her marriage to 89-year-old billionaire J. Howard Marshall - and her reputation have been revisited and reexamined over recent years.
"From director Ursula Macfarlane ( Untouchable ) and producer Alexandra Lacey comes an unflinching and humanizing examination of the life, death and secrets of Vickie Lynn Hogan - better known as model and actress Anna Nicole Smith," the synopsis for the upcoming Netflix documentary - set to air May 16 - reads.
"From her first appearance in Playboy in 1992, Anna Nicole’s dizzying ascent was the very essence of the American dream, brought to a tragic halt with her untimely passing in 2007.
"With access to never-before-seen footage, home movies, and interviews with key figures who have not spoken out until now, ANNA NICOLE SMITH: YOU DON’T KNOW ME reveals new insights into the story of the quintessential blonde bombshell hardly anyone really knew."
As Netflix shared the trailer on Twitter on Monday, the official account for the streaming platform was hit with a wave of concerned tweets from fans of the late star.
"I hope they don't do her dirty. She deserved so much better," one mused as they quote-tweeted the trailer with their own followers.
"They better not exploit her. i’m super excited for this," another added, as a third declared: "She deserved so much better. I hope this documentary doesn't further exploit her."
One cheekily quipped: "Honestly hesitant about this but I will be pirating."
Former Celebrity Big Brother star and gossip blogger Perez Hilton added: "One day there will be a Perez Hilton documentary. Hopefully while I'm still alive!"
The trailer for Anna Nicole Smith: You Don’t Know Me offers a quick rundown of the late star's rise to fame and untimely death - from her childhood in Texas, her first marriage at 17, the birth of her son, Daniel, and her decision to do whatever she could to flee her hometown and create a better life for herself and Daniel.
You Don't Know Me will also look back on Anna's marriage to 89-year-old billionaire J. Howard Marshall, with one interviewee noting in the teaser clip how much they genuinely "loved each other."
The Netflix feature continues to touch on the legal battle that ensued over Marshall’s estate after his death, as well as Anna’s struggles with addiction and living her life in the glare of the spotlight.
