Manchester United fans are growing angrier at their club's steep ticket prices as they remain winless in their last three matches in the Premier League. The hashtag #BoycottUnited has trended for more than 24 hours on X, while fans have targeted sponsors with criticism.
The fans are also campaigning to boycott all commercial sponsors in hopes that the owners, the Glazers, will be pressured to sell the club.
Was Cristiano Ronaldo Right About Man United?
#BoycottUnited may have been a new campaign triggered by the club's poor run of form but fan animosity started way back in 2005 when the Glazers purchased the club. When Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS joined the club as a minority shareholder in 2024, fans were hopeful. However, ticket prices continued to rise, while fans have also criticised changes to supporter policies and benefits.

Fans were reminded of the time Cristiano Ronaldo, one of football's most decorated players, criticised Man United and the Glazers. Ronaldo helped the club win major honours during his first stint with them from 2003 to 2009, until his then record-making transfer to Real Madrid.
But Ronaldo had a brief homecoming, playing for the Glazer-owned club in the 2021-2022 season. 'Manchester are a marketing club—they get money from the marketing,' Ronaldo told Piers Morgan in a 2022 interview.

'It will be hard for Manchester to be top of the game in the next two or three years,' Ronaldo also said. In the years following that interview, United finished last in their Champions League group stage, had a negative goal differential and recorded their lowest-ever Premier League finish at eighth place.

'The owners of the club, the Glazers, they don't care about the club,' Ronaldo added in that same interview. #GlazersOut is among the many hashtags for the boycott.
Snapdragon Hides 'Angry' Posts
Qualcomm Technologies, through its Snapdragon brand, has sponsored United's shirts since 2024. Angry fans littered the brand's social media with negative posts along with the fan-agreed hashtags, with some fans accusing the company of hiding comments.
A club fan account with over 210,000 followers posted: '99% of the comments on Snapdragon's latest live post are United fans calling out The Glazers & INEOS and telling them to END the partnership with United. They're even hiding comments now...'

Record Revenues Despite Missing Champions League
Manchester United reported that it made £677.6 million ($895 million) in revenue in the year ending in June 2026. It was achieved despite the club's failure to compete in the Champions League, football's most lucrative competition, for the 2025-2026 season.
However, United reported a £22.6-million operating profit. 'We are pleased to have secured record revenues and adjusted EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization), which demonstrates the underlying strength of our business, particularly in a season without European football,' said INEOS chief executive officer Omar Berrada.
