Anger at cars being parked close to junction due to 'laziness'

Residents of a Nottinghamshire village have voiced concerns over cars being parked too close to a junction, blaming motorists' "laziness".

People living and visiting Keyworth, said the parked cars at junctions in Wolds Drive caused visibility issues, especially in foggy conditions.

It has prompted a warning from Nottinghamshire County Council, who reminded offenders that obstructive parking would be dealt with by police.

Alan Drinkwater, a 59-year-old managing director who regularly shops nearby, said: “People park on this corner and causes visibility issues.

“It’s one of these things where you know the area and take a little bit of extra care. I certainly do [act more cautious] when I’m here because of the amount of traffic that’s parked here.

“I notice any speeding, I've never noticed anyone going at excessive speed - it’s just the parking and visibility when you’re pulling out of a junction.

“It’s a busy spot and a busy area.”

Jeff Hooley, 71, of Keyworth, said: “People park there to go to the Co-op. There’s parking at the back - it’s just laziness.

“It wants a yellow lining, just in front of the Co-op. Sometimes there’s spaces that are empty but are still parked there.

“Otherwise it’s not bad.”

Mum-of-two, Ashleigh Campey, added: “We live further down but it is always busy.

“I walk down here with the kids, obviously it’s a concern isn't it?

“It’s even worse facing Keyworth primary school. The parking there is worse than here.

“Obviously there’s schools and no car parks for any of them - so people are in a rush and just parking anywhere to take their kids to school.”

Gary Wood, head of transport and highways at Nottinghamshire County Council said: “We would encourage residents and road users to park considerately. Obstructive parking is an offence which is enforced by Nottinghamshire Police.”
