Angelo Ogbonna has confirmed he wants to stay at West Ham beyond the end of his contract this summer.
Ogbonna, who will turn 35 in May, is among the club’s longest serving players, having signed from Juventus back in 2015.
The centre-back was out of contract last summer, but signed a new one-year deal having missed most of the campaign due to an ACL injury.
Ogbonna made his return in Europa Conference League qualifying back in August but was largely restricted to cup appearances during the first half of the current season.
However, Craig Dawson’s January departure to Wolves as well as Kurt Zouma’s injury have seen the Italian called upon more regularly since Christmas, starting seven of the Hammers’ last eight League games, including Saturday’s morale-boosting 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest.
Manager David Moyes said earlier this month that discussions with the club’s out-of-contract players were yet to begin, but asked whether he was hopeful of earning a new deal, Ogbonna said: “Of course.”
“It feels like a family here and I want to be part of this family,” he added. “Now the most important thing is to get our points and we can talk later.”
