Ange Postecoglou has denied that Liel Abada is unhappy at Celtic – and the Hoops boss says he’ll listen to his player instead of outside noise.
The Aussie was responding to speculation over the Israel winger’s future after reports emerged that he had turned down a new deal. The president of Abada’s old club, Maccabi Petah Tikva, claimed the 21-year-old rejected a contract at Celtic and was almost certain to move to the EPL this summer.
But Postecoglou has spoken to the player and insists he’s happy in Glasgow. If that changes and Abada wants to take up an opportunity elsewhere, the gaffer won’t have an issue with it. Postecoglou said: “It’s about what they [players] want to do. With some of them, they’re at different stages of their life and have different ambitions.
“I’ve got no problem with that, it’s not about being ruthless or harsh with them. It’s about understanding their needs and what they want to do. That’s fine, we’ll move on and they’ll move on to better things. That’s how I treat every case.
“Liel’s very happy here. There’s nothing that’s shown me he wants to go anywhere. He just wants to be the best he can be and he’s working hard every day to do that.
“He’s been fantastic since he joined us. Sometimes other people like to speak for others. I prefer to speak to the person themselves and get first-hand information. At the moment Liel is really happy here.”
