Just when Celtic thought Leeds United had their new boss lined up, the possibility of an approach for Ange Postecoglou is alive again after their first choice said no.
Rayo Vallecano boss Andoni Iraola looked set to bet Jesse Marsch’s replacement at Elland Road after he was sacked this week. But the Spaniard has now reportedly decided against making the move to Yorkshire, forcing the club hierarchy to move on to other targets.
The Hoops are confident that Postecoglou has no desire to the leave Pakhead, as revealed by Record Sport on Tuesday, and would be happy for the club to reject any attempt by Leeds to poach the Aussie after a highly impressive 18 months in the East End of Glasgow. But with the English Premier League outfit keen to avoid a second successive relegation dogfight and their No 1 choice having rejected their advances, it’s back to the drawing board.
Feyenoord coach Arnie lot has emerged as the new favourite. However, Postecoglou remains in the mix, alongside former Wolves and Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo and former River Plate head coach and Argentina international Marcello Gallardo.
Caretaker boss Michael Skubala took charge of Leeds’ short trip to Old Trafford on Wednesday night. They led 2-0 thanks to goals from Wilfried Gnonto and a Rafael Varane OG. But Erik Ten Hag’s men fought back to level the score through Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.
The sides face each other again this weekend, this time at Elland Road. Skubala is likely to remain in charge at least until then, although a new arrivals in the dugout shouldn't be ruled out.
