Andy Robertson move branded ‘not cool’ as fuming Jurgen Klopp hits out at Liverpool mistake

Jurgen Klopp has lamented an error by Scotland captain Andy Robertson in his Liverpool side's 3-1 friendly loss against Lyon.

The left-back is back with the Reds after international duty last month amid the World Cup break and the match in Dubai started brightly, Fabio Carvalho giving Liverpool the lead in the opening minute. Mo Salah missed a penalty to double the 1-0 advantage before Alexandre Lacazette rushed through on goal to level the scoring.

Robertson got to the ball but goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher also came rushing out of his goal, meaning the Scots skipper simply put it on a plate for the French striker to roll the ball into an empty net. He grabbed another on top of a Bradley Barcola and a penalty shootout was also won by the Ligue 1 club. Klopp knows these things can happen but it didn't make it him pleased about the incident.

He said: "The start of the game from us was really good, I liked a lot of parts in the first half. I saw what we were working on in the training sessions so far.

"Really aggressive, played well, good connected, could have scored a second one and then we concede the equaliser with a misunderstanding between Robbo and Caoimhin. Not cool - but can happen, obviously.

"Second half we had to change a lot [and] with all the things we did in training it was clear 60 minutes is the maximum what anybody can play. And then we were really young and not well organised anymore.

"Let me say it like this, when we lost the ball then it ended up in front of our goal. Every ball we lost was a counter-attack and was pretty much a big chance, that's of course not how it should look, but that's a learning curve and we will use this game to learn from."

Celtic academy graduate Ben Doak made a cameo appearance after half-time while former Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay also got a chance to impress Klopp, although he missed one of Liverpool's penalties in the 5-3 shootout loss.
