Remarkable TV footage appears to show Liverpool defender Andy Robertson being elbowed in the face by a linesman during today's game against Arsenal.
With the whistle for half-time blown after a frantic 45 minutes, which saw Arsenal storm into a two-goal lead before Mohamed Salah pulled one goal, linesman Constantine Hatzidakis was walking slowly towards referee Paul Tierney while carrying the ball.
Robertson ran up behind Hatzidakis and appeared to grab the linesman, to which Hatzidakis reacts by throwing his elbow which connects with the left-back's face.
The Scotland international was left furious, quickly running after the linesman and then referee Tierney shouting as his team-mates followed to surround his match officials as they attempted to leave the Anfield pitch.
Jamie Carragher quickly tweeted: "Linesman elbow on Robertson!"
Sky Sports reporter Geoff Shreeves reported on TV that Robertson ran down then tunnel shouting: "He’s just elbowed me in the throat, the linesman has elbowed me in the throat."
A PGMOL statement read: “PGMOL is aware of an incident involving assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis and Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson at half-time during the Liverpool v Arsenal fixture at Anfield. We will review the matter in full once the game has concluded.”
Roy Keane was less far from impressed, branding Robertson a “big baby” for his reaction.
"Does Robertson grab the linesman first? I'm not sure but Robertson's then complaining," said Keane, speaking in his role as a pundit on Sky Sports.
"He should be more worried about his defending. Do you know what he is, that Robertson? I've watched him a number of times, he is a big baby, that's what that guy is.
"Just get on with the game and concentrate on your defending. He does grab the linesman first."
Micah Richards added: "I've never seen anything like that in my life."
"I've never seen an official raise an elbow to a player," Neville said on Sky Sports. "I think he'll be in a lot of trouble after this game ends."
