Andy Murray blasts 'disaster' poster as his family says organisers should be 'ashamed'

Andy Murray has blasted a 'disaster' poster while his family says organisers should be 'ashamed'. The official All England Club artwork depicted some of tennis’ greatest ever rivalries.

The image showcases 15 current and former tennis stars walking down a staircase. It included legends such as Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Venus and Serena Williams.

Young talents were also featured including the likes of Jannik Sinner and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz. But two-time SW19 champion Murray was nowhere to be seen despite being the first British man to win the tournament in 77 years.

Now Andy - and his family - have now slammed the poster. "It was a disaster, wasn't it?” the three-time Grand Slam champion told the Daily Star. “I don't need to elaborate any more on it, it's pretty obvious if you see the poster.”

When asked about men being placed in front of the women, he said: "That was what was slightly strange. I guess the players that are on the poster are ones that have had incredible careers and have been unbelievably successful at Wimbledon.

"But elsewhere are some of the greatest players of all time. For me, Alcaraz and Sinner are unbelievable players, but it just seems strange that they were all sort of behind them.

"I personally don't really care that much about it. But I can see when you look at it it's like, 'that does look a bit strange'. Me not being on it is certainly not a problem."

While Niall Erskine, the brother of Murray’s mum Judy, fumed on Twitter: "Appalling at every level, all about the men in the forefront and your own British history maker nowhere to be seen. You should be ashamed of yourselves." ‌

And his brother also had thoughts on the matter. He said: "Didn't they talk about the Big 4 for 10 years until he smashed his hip to pieces when he was world No.1 you melt.”

When sharing an image of the poster on Twitter, a spokesperson said: "At Wimbledon, we've witnessed epic rivalry after epic rivalry, lifting the sport to new heights

"Here's to the next generation of headline acts.."

Scores of people replied to the post, with many questioning where Murrary was. One user wrote: "I’m in no way shape or form a Murray fan but this is borderline insulting. The man is a Brit who won in 2013 and 2016. Why is he not in the picture with Nole,Rafa and Federer ? He has won 2 more than Sinner and Alcaraz."

Another said: "Whoever commissioned this "artwork" just insulted andy_murray and Scotland- how can you leave him out of this?"

"Ah, cos he's just a Scot now and not British as he's outside the top 10."

A third penned: "Serena Williams (7 time winner) in 12th spot in the line up but Nadal (2 time winner) right at the front. Very telling. And completely excluding the Scottish winner."
