Andrew Wiggins continues to be viewed as a potential trade chip for the Golden State Warriors. The veteran forward has struggled for the past two seasons. He has failed to recapture the production that saw him emerge as an integral piece of Golden State’s 2022 championship team. As such, Wiggins is viewed as a logical trade candidate.
According to Logan Murdoch of The Ringer, Golden State could “aggressively pursue” potential trade packages for the former first overall draft pick. Wiggins has three years remaining on his current $109 million contract, which would guarantee another team multiple years of salary control.
“League sources believe Andrew Wiggins, who struggled to find a consistent role last season, will be aggressively dangled in trade talks,” Murdoch reported.
Wiggins joined the Warriors in 2020. Since then, he’s played in 264 regular season games, averaging 16.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists. He shot 51.7% from the two-point range and 38.3% from deep. Other teams around the NBA may be interested in acquiring him due to the scoring and wing defense he provides.
Nevertheless, the Warriors will likely be strict with their asking price. They’re under no pressure to trade Wiggins. A deal must make sense for the franchise to consider signing off on the move. Still, if trading Wiggins helps ease the cap constraints and brings in fresh blood, it’s a logical move for all parties involved.
We’re only in the very early stages of the offseason. A trade can happen at any time. As such, Wiggins may find his name hitting the news cycle with a renewed frequency. Only time will tell whether a trade actually comes to fruition, though.
