Andrew Coscoran has made history by becoming the fastest Irishman in history to run 1500m, clocking a lightning-fast time of 3:33:49 in a magical performance in Birmingham on Saturday.
The rapid time may have only been good enough for a third place finish at the World Tour Indoor finals, but it was enough for the Balbriggan man to smash Ray Flynn's record of 3.33.50 which stood since 1982.
He also broke Marcus O'Sullivan's old indoor record of 3:36.64 which he set back in 1989.
In an almost unbelievable turn of events, fellow Irishman Luke McCann also broke O'Sullivan's record. Running a cracking time of 3:34:76 for a personal best performance, the 22-year-old had to make do with fourth place and the honour of breaking a record that was set 12 years before he was even born.
It's an excellent spell of form for both men ahead of the beginning of the European Indoor Championships which run from March 2-5.
