TIRUPATI: A Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams free bus 'Dharmaradham', with Srivari Seva volunteers on board, suddenly caught fire while plying along the second ghat road leading to Tirupati from Tirumala on Saturday.
According to TTD sources, excess heat led to a short-circuit and all of a sudden a fire broke out in the bus.
However, the alert bus driver got the vehicle to a grinding halt and managed to get all the volunteers out of the bus safely on time.
The bus was partially gutted by the time the fire engines reached the spot to douse the flames.
Incidentally, this is the second similar fire mishap within a span of a week on the second ghat road.
It may be recalled that an SUV moving along the second ghat road was completely gutted in a similar fire incident that occurred about a week ago near Tirumala.
