Andhra Pradesh: Tirupati police destroy seized liquor bottles worth Rs.68 lakh

TIRUPATI: Tirupati urban police wing destroyed liquor bottles smuggled into the state worth approximately Rs.68 lakh on Tuesday.

Tirupati SP P Parameswar Reddy personally monitored the process of destruction of seized liquor bottles near Tandlam at Gajulamandyam near Tirupati on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters later, Tirupati SP underlined that smuggling of liquor from other states was strictly prohibited by the Andhra Pradesh excise Act and such smuggling instances will be dealt with an iron hand by the district police wing and the special enforcement bureau.

He appreciated the sleuths of the Tirupati urban police wing as well as the special enforcement bureau for the seizure of such a large quantity of interstate and illicit liquor and directed them to step up vigil especially at the interstate borders.

"The instances of interstate smuggling is rampant particularly at the towns and villages bordering the neighbouring states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Interstate liquor is smuggled from Tamil Nadu and transported to various parts of the district via Tirupati. We will strengthen vehicular checks at the interstate borders to curb the liquor smuggling menace tactfully", Tirupati SP asserted.
