Godavari : 7 people died in a road accident near the Devarapalli village when a lorry carrying eight people from Jangareddygudem crashed into a canal.
"Seven people sitting on top of the lorry died on the spot, while one person was rescued and taken to the hospital. The bodies of the deceased were transferred to Kovvur Government Hospital" said area DSP Kumar.
The accident occurred at midnight within the Devarapalli limits when the passengers were on their way to Jangreddygudem.
The driver of the lorry carrying cashew nuts and eight labourers attempted to avoid a pothole, causing the vehicle to go haywire and crash into a canal.
Seven people sitting on top of the lorry died on the spot, while one person was rescued and admitted to the hospital.
The bodies of the deceased were transferred to Kovvuru Government Hospital, according to DSP Kumar.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed his grief over the accident.
The Chief Minister conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased and directed officials to provide the best medical treatment to those injured in the accident.
The Chief Minister assured that the government stands by the families of the victims and will provide necessary aid.
He also instructed officials to take necessary measures to prevent such accidents in the future. (with Agency inputs)
