Andhra Pradesh: NGT orders probe into illegal mining at Kuppam, asks chief secretary to submit a report

TIRUPATI: The national green tribunal (NGT) has ordered the Chittoor district collector to take stringent steps to prevent illegal mining at Kuppam assembly constituency.

The NGT on Wednesday issued several orders after hearing a petition filed by TDP former MLC Gourivani Srinivasulu regarding illegal mining in survey numbers 104 and 213 in Muddanapalli village in Shantipuram mandal.

The Green Tribunal ordered the chief secretary along with the officials of the concerned mining department to visit the illegal mining area, conduct a scientific study and then submit a report.

The NGT considered the reports submitted by various government departments and confirmed that illegal mining was going on in forest lands.

The tribunal pulled up the mining officials for mentioning only illegal transportation of granite. It has ordered the officials to provide the names and details of those resorting to illegal mining.
