Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta finds fault with Chittoor collector, asks him to pay Rs 60 lakh compensation to old widow

HYDERABAD: Finding fault with the revenue authorities for withholding the compensation to be paid to a 75-year-old widow with a mentally imbalanced son for her land acquired for laying an express high way, Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta Justice P Lakshman Reddy directed Chittoor district collector to release her a compensation of nearly Rs 60 lakh within four weeks.

The judge gave this order after hearing the pathetic story of T Punyavathi, a resident of Seshachalapuram in Mapakshi of Chittoor. She has nearly 4 acres of land in the village. The officials acquired 2.25 acres from her in 2015. An express highway was being built between Bengaluru and Chennai and the land acquisition was part of this work. Though the officials took possession of the land much before, they passed a land acquisition award in Feb 2018. But they did not pay any compensation to her till now.
