An Australian woman learned she was pregnant and could give birth ‘any day’ within 24 hours; her daughter arrived at 21 weeks 3 days and became the country’s most premature baby to survive

An Australian mother discovered she was pregnant just five days before going into labour, and gave birth less than 24 hours after doctors told her that her baby could arrive at any moment. Her daughter, Makerita Tanuvasa, known by her middle name Miracle, was born at just 21 weeks and three days of pregnancy. Weighing 351 grams, less than a standard tin of soup, and measuring 30.5 centimetres long, she has officially become the most premature baby ever to survive in Australia. The remarkable story, reported by People magazine and regional news outlet 9News, began when Annrose Tanuvasa completed an intense gym challenge but noticed she had lost much less weight than expected. She did not know she was pregnant because she had suffered a miscarriage in December, so she went for a routine ultrasound.
