About 350 Georgia daycares kept their Quality Rated stars over the past decade after the state cited them for seriously harming or endangering children, according to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution investigation published Oct. 13. In some cases, the newspaper found, a center's rating went up after a serious incident.
Many Georgia families use the star rating as a shortcut when choosing child care. The AJC found that the staff who assign those stars do not review a daycare's full safety record.
