Amruta Fadnavis extortion case: Bookie Anil Jaisinghani arrested from Gujarat

MUMBAI: A Mumbai crime cyber police team on Sunday night detained absconding alleged bookie, Anil Jaisinghani, from Gujarat. He is accused in a case of extortion and criminal conspiracy lodged by Amruta Fadnavis, wife of state's deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.

Earlier, Jaisinghani's daughter, Aniksha, was arrested by the Malabar Hill police and is currently in police custody.

Balsing Rajput, DCP Cyber police, said that there are 15 criminal cases registered against Jaisinghani.

"It was Operation AJ that led to the arrest of Jaisinghani from Gujarat. This was a 72 hours Operation. The accused had dodged the police twice. We nabbed him and brought to Mumbai," said Rajput.

Amruta Fadnavis stated in the FIR, lodged on February 20, that Aniksha offered Rs one crore to help her father in a criminal case. Later police also invoked extortion charges in the case. Aniksha had allegedly sent message to the complainant demanding help for her father and Rs 10 crore. Jaisinghani and Aniksha both have been named as accused in the case.

"Jaisinghani was using internet technology to evade arrest. He was using different gadgets," added DCP Rajput.

Jaisinghani, detained by the crime branch, will be handed over to the Malabar Hill police station which is probing the case.
