Amritsar: Fraudsters make away with Rs 1 lakh from Golden Temple

AMRITSAR: Swindlers absconded with a sum of Rs 1 lakh that had been donated by devotees at the Golden Temple for langar contribution by diverting the attention of the clerk at the cash counter.

According to sources, at around 8 pm on Sunday, three persons, including one female, approached the cash counter located near Dukhbhanjan Ber. They informed Rashpal Singh, the clerk at the cash counter about their intention to make a donation for the langar but tricked him into a deceptive tactic by claiming that their money had accidentally fallen from their hands while counting. Exploiting the clerk's momentary distraction as he looked toward the ground to assist them, the fraudsters pilfered two wads of Rs fifty thousand each before vanishing into the crowd.

The theft was discovered when the clerk concluded his shift and conducted a tally of the funds. It was revealed that the amount was Rs 1 lakh less than the recorded receipts. Immediately recognizing the discrepancy, the clerk reported the incident to the management.

While confirming the theft, the Manager, of Golden Temple Bhagwant Singh said they were checking the CCTV footage of the incident and had also lodged a complaint with the police. He said he believed that the thieves would be held soon since not only they but the police was also investigating the theft incident.
