Amir Khan wants Kell Brook rematch despite being stopped in grudge fight

Amir Khan looks set to exercise his right to a rematch with Kell Brook despite being stopped in the sixth round last month.

Khan and Brook finally met after almost two decades of back-and-forth while both men became world champions.

Brook dominated from the first bell in Manchester, leaving boxing fans convinced that Khan would hang up his gloves.

But alongside a photo of the pair of them, Khan's brother Haroon Khan said: "It wasn’t the result we wanted. No excuses but that isn’t the way AK was that night but the heart he showed and what he gives to the fans is what matters.

"Bring on the rematch and let’s get things changed and get the win."

However Mirror Fighting understands Khan has yet to make an official decision on his future.

Khan had several weeks after his defeat to activate his rematch clash - but promoter Ben Shalom admitted it would be a surprise if he opted to do so.

“It’s not something we would advise and it’s something we don’t think Amir should do, but he does have that option. We have heard murmurs from his camp that he was jet lagged and didn’t take Kell too seriously," he told talkSPORT.

“I don’t think it will happen, but it’s not something in our control. It is something we agreed to before the fight, something Kell agreed to before the fight and he has three weeks to decide if he wants to fight him again.

"Amir got demolished in that fight and I would expect that to happen again. But technically he would be entitled to that rematch.”

Khan refused to confirm his retirement in the immediate aftermath of the fight but hinted he would hang up his gloves.

“I’ll sit down with my family but I think it could be,” Khan said when asked whether this could be his last fight. “It’s something to think about, definitely.

“I’ve always said I never want boxing to retire me, I want to retire from boxing and punishment like that sometimes in boxing, too much of that can be sometimes harmful in the future.

“I’ll sit down with my wife and my family in the morning and see where we go from here.”
