American Airlines jet diverts to Glasgow Airport after mid-flight emergency

A flight has been diverted to Glasgow Airport following a mid-air emergency.

The alarm was raised at around 12pm after the American Airlines plane left Frankfurt at 11.12am for its planned destination in Dallas, Forth Worth.

AAL71 was reported by flight tracker RadarBox.com to have returned back to the UK shortly after flying back the British isles due to a 7700 squawk transmission.

Images by FlightRadar24 confirms the diversion taken by the aircraft.

A squawk is used to report that an aircraft may be experiences issues and gives it priority to land in nearby airports.

The flight landed at Glasgow Airport at round 12.20pm.

Reports by Aviation Source claim electrical burning in the aircraft, however, there is currently no official confirmation of this.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they attended the scene at the airpot at 11.57am before being stood down at 12.49pm.
