An American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing after a man become 'erratic' during the flight.
The flight was supposed to fly to Washington DC from Los Angeles International Airport but had to be diverted three hours into the flight to Kansas City.
According to passengers onboard, the man had to be subdued using a coffee pot as the plane descended rapidly.
Another passenger said the incident was 'very scary' and said the lights in the plane suddenly came on as 'several men stood up to rush to first class.
The man was reportedly bleeding when he was taken into custody, the passenger added.
An American Airlines spokesperson said in a statement after the incident: 'American Airlines flight 1775 with service from Los Angeles [LAX] to Washington, DC [DCA] diverted to Kansas City [MCI] due to an unruly passenger.
'The flight landed safely at MCI at 2:28pm local time, and law enforcement was requested to meet the flight on arrival.
'We’re grateful to our crew members, who are consistently dedicated to the safety and care of our customers and who handled the circumstances with the utmost skill and professionalism.'
