Amazon's £7 item is saving shoppers up to £60 on heating costs

Winter temperatures have been dropping to as low as -4 degrees in and around Manchester, making it even harder for households who are already struggling with the rising cost of energy.

To help keep homes warm without using the heating, shoppers are turning to an affordable energy saving product. The NAVK Draft Excluder Tape is one of Amazon's top choice products.

The £6.79 tape is meant to be used on doors and windows to stop heat from escaping by sealing gaps and leaks which would normally allow air to enter from outside, and heated air to escape.

It's one of the more affordable ways to help households spend as little as possible on energy costs. Upgrading items like thermostats, boilers and electric fire places are known to save hundreds on energy consumption costs but initial payments are often too expensive.

The tape may look nothing special but installing it in the home can save shoppers around £60 a year on heating costs. The self-adhesive tape can also be used on keyholes and letter boxes to retain heat, as well as having heat benefits it is also widely used to prevent mould and mildew build-up, which is a common occurrence in colder houses during winter as walls and windows collect more condensation.

Measuring at 9x5mm shoppers say the tape can 'draft proof' a lot of areas at home considering the affordable price. One shopper said: "In order to make the apartment a little more winter-proof, we ordered this sealing tape for our doors and windows.

"The tape is easy to cut to size and holds securely after removing the adhesive film. Of course, it is important that the surfaces to be compacted are properly cleaned beforehand."

Shoppers can use the product to seal off almost any area of the home, and its described as being 'easy to install', one shopper explained how simple the process was.

They said: "You peel off the protective film on the adhesive side, adjust the tape by pressing it lightly - so you can turn it over again if necessary. When you have found the right position, you press it firmly. Voila... done. The doors still open and close without any problems, only the pull-through is gone."

It's a more affordable, and sleeker alternative to cushioned draft blockers which do the same job retaining heat but are more expensive. This is one of the cheapest listed on Amazon for £22.99.

Another shopper said using the tape has helped with unwanted noise too, they said: "In addition to preventing draughts, you also have a somewhat noise-reducing effect. There is nothing to complain about here and you can confidently do without expensive sealing tape from other well-known brand manufacturers."

The tape can be bought for £6.79 on Amazon, here.
