Many viewers who tuned in to the BBC One premiere of Amanda and Alan's Italian Job at 8.30pm found themselves to be pleasantly surprised this evening. In the programme, pals Amanda Holden and Alan Carr are tasked with renovating two dilapidated flats that they bought for just €1 (about 88p) on Sicily, Italy's largest island.
Alan's first impression is not the best, as he notes that even the stray dog outside "has had enough". Once they enter it gets even worse, Amanda then asks "what is that? Is that poo?" gesturing towards the unloved walls.
However, after donning some boiler suits and sledgehammers, they prove that with relatively little effort things can start to look a lot brighter. One viewer even admitted to having their view on Bristol's Amanda turned around.

"I have changed my opinion on you. I think this is the best thing you have done."
The programme shows the duo sipping on Aperol Spritzes in the Sicilian sunshine, practicing their Italian with anyone who will listen. It proves to be a very easy watch, with Alan being as naturally entertaining as ever.
The Vivienne - winner of the first series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK - was among those who loved the show, tweeting: "I’m absolutely howling watching @chattyman and @AmandaHolden ‘s new show on BBC1. Watching Alan stop the car in front of a tram. Also lovely project in Italy! It’s gonna be stunning! X."
Meanwhile, @Danielmaude said: " @chattyman @AmandaHolden this is bloody hilarious #italianjob "
Another user, @QwentyJ, posted: "Can I just say that Alan and Amanda's Italian Job is actually quite a good concept for a shows, even if it is an upmarket Italian version of changing rooms #AmandaHolden #alancarr #italianjob."
Overall, it seems that many viewers who had initially expected a waste of their evening found themselves to be entertained and enthralled in equal measure. For those of you who enjoyed it and have direct access to iPlayer there is good news; you can watch all the other episodes right now without having to wait until next week.
Otherwise, the next showing of Amanda & Alan's Italian Job is on next Friday (January 13) at 8.30pm on BBC One.
