Amanda Bynes Opens Up About Mental Health Struggles And Recovery

Harry and Meghan attend event marking the World Mental Health Day in New York

Amanda Bynes recently opened up about her struggles with depression and weight gain on her Instagram Story. The actress revealed that she had gained over 20 pounds in the past few months due to her battle with depression but shared that she is now feeling much better and is determined to get back in shape.

Bynes, 37, expressed her current weight at 162 pounds and her goal weight at 110 pounds. She disclosed her past misuse of Adderall, a medication commonly used to treat focus issues, in an attempt to maintain a certain weight. Bynes admitted to obtaining a prescription for Adderall by faking symptoms of ADD during a visit to a psychiatrist.

She recounted instances of chewing Adderall tablets on the set of a film, which led to her being unable to memorize her lines and eventually dropping out of the project due to her addiction. Bynes acknowledged her past mistakes and unprofessional behavior in leaving the film set abruptly.

Throughout her struggles, Bynes has sought treatment for her mental health and has been placed on psychiatric holds multiple times. Last year, she was found walking naked in Los Angeles and was placed on a psychiatric hold for a few weeks. Despite subsequent incidents leading to further holds, Bynes has since been released and voluntarily checked back into treatment.

Following the end of her eight-year conservatorship in 2022, Bynes has been focusing on self-improvement, including undergoing cosmetic surgery on her eyelids to boost her self-confidence. She has also experimented with her appearance, briefly dyeing her hair black before returning to her signature platinum blond look.
