Amad has confirmed he has played his last game for Sunderland after his loan spell ended in play-off heartache at the hands of Luton Town on Tuesday night.
The Ivorian joined the Black Cats on deadline day of the last summer transfer window from parent club Manchester United and played his way into the hearts of the Stadium of Light faithful after a remarkable season in terms of his individual output. With 14 goals and three assists to his name in the league alone, Amad has taken home Sunderland's Young Player of the Year award.
Tony Mowbray's side came within touching distance of the Premier League, but a 3-2 aggregate defeat by Luton in the play-off semi-final has resigned Sunderland to another campaign in the Championship next term.
In the aftermath of the game, Amad was active on social media as he confirmed he'll be back at Old Trafford in time for next season.
Some of the more optimistic members of the Sunderland fanbase had harboured faint hopes Amad's stay in the North-East would extend for another season, but their love affair ends here according to the man himself.
Initially, he commented on an Instagram post from a Sunderland fan page bidding him farewell. In reply, Amad wrote: "I have loved every moment here in Sunderland, I wish you well and will support you for the rest of my life...thanks."

Shortly after, Amad uploaded a post of his own echoing a similar sentiment as it read: "Hi guys, i know you are sad, we all are. a group of young guys who fought until the last minute, I can only be proud to have been part of this team.
"No regrets just proud of what each of us has become over the course of the season. thank you for the love. HAWAY THE LADS," before signing off with red and white love hearts.
For the United fans who watched Amad's development at Sunderland closely, there is surely a huge amount of excitement for what the 20-year-old can achieve in a Red Devils shirt.
United have already publicly acknowledged Amad's play-off misery, taking to Twitter to write: "Commiserations, Amad. Our on-loan winger suffered a 3-2 aggregate defeat with Sunderland in the Championship play-offs."
Manager Erik ten Hag has already confirmed Amad will be giving opportunities to show what he can do for United next season.
The Dutchman told reporters: "We loan such players to let them develop and make progress. To bring them back... that is the aim of a loan."
