A man who was wanted by Queensland police in relation to two alleged semi-automatic rifle shooting incidents in Brisbane in April has been arrested in Sydney overnight.
Mitchell James Wilson was arrested by New South Wales detectives in relation to offences allegedly committed in the southern state.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said it is a welcome outcome for both states.
He said that, once NSW proceedings were finalised, Queensland Police would apply for the man's extradition to the state, where he's wanted in relation to alleged weapons and arson offences.
According to New South Wales police, Mr Wilson was arrested in Sydney's inner west following an alleged carjacking on Thursday night.
A spokesperson said at 7.50pm yesterday, the 27-year-old allegedly entered the car of a 38-year-old man on Old Canterbury Road at Dulwich Hill and threatened him with a firearm.
Mr Wilson allegedly told the man to drive the car before the pair became involved in an altercation in the suburb of Campsie.
The 38-year-old man was able to get out of the vehicle and contacted police.
He was taken to Canterbury Hospital in Campsie in a stable condition.
Mr Wilson is alleged to have continued to drive the man's vehicle before crashing into a parked car at Earlwood, also in inner west Sydney.
He was arrested after being pursued by police on foot.
Mr Wilson was taken to Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for observation.
He is still in hospital under police guard and officers are investigating.
