All remaining Covid travel restrictions to be lifted despite cases rising

New travel updated have been announced that will see all remaining mitigations for UK arrivals scrapped.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps took to Twitter to confirm that all Covid testing requirements for everyone arriving to the UK will be lifted.

This means no matter what your vaccine status, you no longer need a Covid test to enter the UK.

Passenger locator forms will also no longer be required from 4am March 18.

This comes as reports from ZOE the Covid study app have recorded cases rising in the UK.

Scotland are also seeing a high volume of people in hospital with Covid with NHS Grampian warning they are seeing peak level numbers and are overwhelmed.

Today (March 14) Mr Shapps said: "TRAVEL UPDATE.

"All remaining Covid travel measures, including the Passenger Locator Form and tests for all arrivals, will be stood down for travel to the UK from 4am on 18 March. These changes are possible due to our vaccine rollout and mean greater freedom in time for Easter."

Scotland confirmed they will be following suit and from Friday 4am, anyone arriving into Scotland will no longer have to take a Covid test or complete a passenger locator form.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: “Two years after the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, today’s announcement marks international travel finally returning to normal.

"The removal of needless forms and ineffective testing regimes means that customers can at long last enjoy hassle-free travel, just like they did before the pandemic.

"With Easter just around the corner and Summer fast approaching, this announcement comes at the perfect time. Since restrictions started to be eased at the beginning of the year, we have experienced strong, sustained demand and the complete removal of forms and requirements will boost that demand even further.”
