All candidates for Michigan House of Representatives District 68 complete Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey

Both of the candidates running in the November 8, 2022, general election for Michigan House of Representatives District 68 — incumbent David Martin (R) and Cheri Hardmon (D) — completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Eighty-eight of the country’s 99 state legislative chambers will hold regularly scheduled elections in 2022. The Republican Party controls both chambers of Michigan’s state legislature. Michigan is one of 13 states with a divided government.

Here are excerpts from candidates’ responses to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Martin:

“Our vote is our voice, and ensuring our vote counts is a crucial part of having confidence in our elections. That’s why Dave voted for strengthening ID requirements when voting in-person or by absentee ballot (SB 285). Dave supported legislation to prohibit the Secretary of State from sending unrequested absentee ballots applications (SB 310) and voted for legislation to require a physical signature when requesting an absentee ballot (HB 5288).”

Hardmon:

“As the child of parents that grew up during the Civil Rights Movement, I learned of the fight and sacrifices made to make sure ALL Americans have the right to vote without obstacles put in place to make it harder to exercise that right. Rights that are once again, under assault. I will fight to protect those rights. Reproductive Freedom is another issue I am passionate about protecting.”

We ask all federal, state, and local candidates with profiles on Ballotpedia to complete a survey and share what motivates them on political and personal levels. Ask the candidates in your area to fill out the survey.
