Comedian Alison Spittle fooled fans when she appeared to be announcing her pregnancy on Instagram – only to reveal she was joining the cast of Eastenders.
The funnywoman revealed she will join the hit UK soap where she will play pregnant character Deborah. But Alison confused fans when she revealed her new career move – with many thinking she was announcing her pregnancy.
She said: “She wrote: “I’ve been keeping this a secret for a while… I’m going to be on Eastenders.
“Edit I’m not pregnant IRL (in real life). I’m pregnant on Eastenders and I was being a goose.
“Thank you, it’s gone too far now, my mammy’s phone is hopping and it’s in the news.
“So to be clear, I’m definitely not pregnant xx”
She wrote another post with a series of behind-the-scenes snaps in Walford, writing: “Big news… I’m pregnant.. on Eastenders!
“I play Deborah and she’s pregnant, not me.
“Tune in to see her tonight. By the way, it goes without saying thank you for your congratulations. I accept them but for incubating a career as a soap star.”
The Westmeath star has seen her career soar in recent years.
As well as working as a comedian, she hosts the hugely popular podcast Wheel of Misfortune with TV personality Kerry Katona, which sees the duo share their most embarrassing stories to make listeners feel good.
During the Covid lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, Alison launched online movie club #covideoparty which saw people watch films at the same time and share their thoughts on Twitter.
