Alison Hammond issues apology on This Morning over 'big' social media mistake

Alison Hammond issued an apology on This Morning on Friday after discovering a big mistake she had been making on social media.

The presenter revealed she had been using the block button on Instagram for all the wrong reasons.

The 48-year-old was back at the helm of This Morning, fronting the ITV daytime show for the first time since she and co-host Dermot O'Leary stepped in and covered following Phillip Schofield's shock exit.

However, they returned in good form, kicking off the show in their standard upbeat manner and the pair discussed the latest news headlines with Nick Ferrari and Matthew Wright, reports Manchester Evening News.

As he gave them their welcome, Dermot described their regular guest as GOATs, a slang phrase meant to mean the Greatest Of All Time which is used as a compliment.

Following the remark, Alison admitted she had 'never' heard the reference before.

The TV-favourite later went on to reveal that she believed she was being trolled online when people referred to her as the 'GOAT'.

She admitted: "I've been blocking people."

Before adding: "Sorry If I've blocked you."

Later in the show, Alison and Dermot were joined in the studio by body confidence coach Michelle Elman.

They took viewers' calls to speak to those who had body image concerns and were seeking expert advice.

One of the calls was Elaine, from London, who shared how she was living with lymphodemia, a swelling due to build-up of lymph fluid in the body.

She began: "I've had it for a long time but the past few years it has got really bad and my thighs and legs look like tree trunks and they’ve got scars," she said on the show.

Describing her hatred for going outside with her legs uncovered, Elaine revealed how she would "live in black trousers" if she could.

And following advice from Michelle about how to deal with body shaming, Elaine went on to speak about how she felt judged by people staring at her in public.

"Let them stare and you enjoy your life," Alison interjected.

"Your body is not an ornament for people to stare at. You just do you babes."

After sharing she hadn’t been to a beach in three years, Alison suggested they head to the seaside together.

Eamonn Holmes recently slammed Alison Hammond and Holly Willoughby's friendship (alisonhammond55/Instagram)

The host then added: "Elaine I know exactly how you are feeling. You can do this and you can be strong."

The presenter also shared that she 'had insecurities too', telling the caller: "I feel like how you feel sometimes as well. It’s not always perfect what you see on the TV.

"I don’t like taking my jackets off but in life you have to enjoy it because before you know it, you are not here.

"You really have to enjoy your life and your legs are beautiful. They are just different, that is all it is."

She continued: "Sometimes I don’t like going to the gym because people are staring at me but they will stare and then worry about what is happening with them. Live your life and live it to the fullest."
