Alfred Johansson is confident his Motherwell vision will not be blurred by a couple of domestic defeats.
The Fir Park outfit, who by and large have started the season brightly, lost 1-0 to Rangers in the William Hill Premiership at Ibrox last weekend but there was some surprise when the Steelmen went down 4-0 to hitherto struggling Aberdeen at Fir Park on Tuesday night.
However, ahead of the trip to Dundee on Saturday, the Swedish boss – who took over from Jens Berthel Askou in June – remained upbeat and positive.
He said: “I think we are in a learning process with this group, 10 new players in the door.
“If we were the finished product today, then someone would have to give us a prize and it’s not how it works. This is a long-term development with this group, as was the same case last year.
“It’s a good start to the season. It’s been a couple of weeks where the performances have not been maybe as good but still, we see a group that is progressing, a group that is very committed, a group that trains really, really good.
“The players are super committed. Everyone is very humble and hard-working and I love my job. I love to be on the pitch with these guys. It’s the best.
“In sports, when you win, you can’t be thinking that you are on top of the world because then you can start to become a little bit complacent and drop your performances.
“Equally, when you lose a game, you can’t think that you are now the worst or it’s a crisis because then you can also become a little bit scared of doing your best and playing the way that we want to play.
“I have massive belief in the potential in this group of players.
“I think they deserve that as well because they’ve been showing it in many of the games. And there will be ups and downs throughout the season.
“That’s how football works. With all these changes going on at the club, with all these players coming in and out and so on, we just need to be humble to the fact that still have a lot of development to be done ahead of us and that’s fine.
“Still, we look forward to Saturday and we have a good feeling in this group, even if probably it was better two weeks ago.
“But we have a really good feeling, a really good belief in what we’re doing and in this group of players. So a lot of potential that we know that we will untap together.”
