Alexandre Lacazette transfer to Arsenal rival can secure Mikel Arteta dream £36m replacement

A number of Arsenal players carry uncertain futures as they head into the summer transfer window later this year, with the likes of Bernd Leno, Mohamed Elneny, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Nicolas Pepe and Eddie Nketiah seemingly leaning towards the exit door.

However, the future of a current starter in the form of Alexandre Lacazette is also up in the air as he enters the final few months of his contract.

So far there have been no signs of a new deal being agreed and manager Mikel Arteta is set to wait until the end of the season for a final decision on what happens next.

"Yeah, we have discussions as you know and at the end of the season, once we know where we are, we will make a decision all together," Arteta said ahead of Arsenal's clash against Leicester last week.

Sources close to the player told football.london several months ago that the 30-year-old did not plan to sign a new deal at the Emirates, leading to interest from his former club Lyon which was publicly confirmed by the club's president.

‘It’s Lacazette, he interests us because he marked this club', said Jean-Michel Aulas last month. 'It’s a profile that interests us and we have always been in contact with him. We have to try to see if we can do it as a free player but we will not be alone.'

Aulas certainly wasn't wrong when saying that Lyon wouldn't be alone, as West Ham remain interested in landing the striker according to an exclusive by TEAMtalk's Graeme Bailey.

The report states that the Hammers are looking to offer a multi-year deal which would put them in the driving seat for Lacazette's signature and unless Arsenal match those terms, a switch across London could become a real possibility.

Although I would prefer Lacazette to join a club oversees due to him still possessing good quality, he may well do Arteta and technical director Edu a huge favour by joining David Moyes' side.

West Ham are said to be admirers of prolific Benfica forward Darwin Nunez and reportedly saw a bid in the region of £45m - £60m rejected in January.

Currently in the top 15 for the European golden boot award, Nunez has scored an impressive 26 times across 33 appearances this season and helped his side progress to the Champions League quarter-finals after scoring against Ajax midweek.

Various reports have linked the in-form Uruguayan, who has a Transfermarkt value of £36m, with a move to Arsenal and if Lacazette switches the Emirates for the London Stadium, they could be presented with a clearer path to secure his services.

Arteta is already facing a pretty desperate striker situation, with Lacazette and Nketiah the only senior options following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's departure to Barcelona and Folarin Balogun's loan move to Middlesbrough.

football.london understands that it has left the Spaniard demanding two new forwards in the summer and although Lacazette could leave him wanting more, the opportunity to add one of the most exciting young strikers currently in the game may also arise.
