When players sign contracts, they often have performance escalators in them as incentives. When they reach certain plateaus, they get a bonus.
Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison has a chance to earn a $250k bonus with 94 rushing yards on Sunday afternoon against the Detroit Lions.
When Mattison signed a new contract with the Vikings, he had two performance incentives added into his contract, bringing the total value of the deal up to $8 million. He would earn a bonus of $250k by reaching 750 yards and 1,000 yards rushing.
Currently, Mattison has 676 rushing yards on the season and, despite a poor rushing attack this season for the Vikings, Mattison does have games of 93 and 95 rushing yards, meaning it’s relatively plausible that he hits the milestone.
