Alexander Isak staying at Newcastle, insists Eddie Howe, amid Arsenal links

Eddie Howe has confirmed that Newcastle will fight to keep Alexander Isak this summer amid reported interest from Arsenal and elsewhere.

The Swedish striker has scored 28 goals in 58 games for the Magpies and a number of clubs, including the Gunners, are reportedly interested in securing his signature this summer.

Newcastle have had to limit their spending due to Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and their chief executive, Darrean Eales, admitted the club may have to sell some key players in the upcoming transfer window.

However, Howe has ruled out a move away from St. James’ Park for the 24-year-old.

“He’s an outstanding talent and no one connected with Newcastle would want to lose him,” Howe said.

“He can go on to achieve incredible things in his career.”

Isak, who joined from Real Sociedad for a club record fee of £63 million in 2022, scored a brace in Newcastle’s stunning comeback against West Ham on Saturday to bring his Premier League tally to 14 this season.

The Swede seemingly opened the door to a move away from the North East, saying “things can happen” during the international break.

But he added that speculation “doesn’t affect me that much” and that “I actually haven’t even thought about it.”

Newcastle’s only other recognised striker is the injury-prone Callum Wilson. The English forward is out after surgery for a damaged tendon.

The Toon Army host Everton on Tuesday night knowing a victory could take them above West Ham into seventh.
