Alexander Isak lifts lid on Alan Shearer's 'very involved' Newcastle United backing

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has revealed that Alan Shearer is "very involved" with the squad as he opened up on the influence that the club legend has had on him personally.

Isak has headed into the international break in fine form as a Newcastle player having scored three goals in his last two starts for the Magpies. Nominations for both player and goal of the month awards have capped off what has been a fine month for the former Real Sociedad man.

Eddie Howe's side now sit just two points outside of the top four but know that victory against Manchester United in their first game back from the international break would see them move up into third on goal difference. A raucous St James' Park will no doubt hope Isak can find the back of the net once again against Erik ten Hag's squad.

And the forward has now opened up on the role that Shearer is currently having on this Newcastle team as they go in search of Champions League football next season.

"It actually feels great," Isak said (as per Swedish outlet Aftonbladet) when asked about the support the team has received from Shearer. "He’s very, very involved. Shearer is really passionate about the club and you can see it.

"Before the cup final, Alan was down and talked to us. Gave tips and of course it helps us. Especially for me as a striker. Even when I signed for the club he told me what Newcastle means and what it means to be a striker for that club."
