Alex Scott says she's 'in a great place' as she embraces turning 40

Alex Scott says she has decided to embrace being 40 because tomorrow isn’t promised.

The former footballer-turned-broadcaster reached the milestone age on October 14 and says she feels “in a great place”.

Appearing on the latest digital cover of Hunger magazine - out now - she said: “Obviously, everyone keeps reminding me about my big Birthday. I went into this birthday feeling comfortable in my own skin.

“There's been too many points in my life where I've kind of been that person who wants [their birthday] to go under the radar. Now, I'm like, let's celebrate it. You just don't know what's going to happen."

Alex Scott also spoke about setbacks she had experienced (Jordan Rossi / Hunger Magazine)

Reflecting on her journey to get to where she is now, the ex England and Arsenal player told the publication: "Sometimes people just see the end process, but not what it took. The rejection, the people not thinking that I was good enough because of my accent and so forth… That constant drive to prove people wrong has always been there from that young girl in Poplar."

“… that young Alexin the cage, she had dreams. She wanted to see the world. She could see there was a bigger picture and she didn't want to be stuck in that football cage and think that was her life." Those dreams would materialise into quite the CV — those 140 England caps, a UEFA Women's Cup-winning goal for Arsenal, and a broadcast media degree that she took, as she puts it, ‘so no one could ever say that I didn't work hard.’"

Thing appear to be going well in her personal life too, as her relationship with singer Jess Glynne continues to go from strength-to-strength.

She and the 35-year-old Hold My Hand hitmaker were first linked in May 2023.

While they tend to keep their love-life relatively private, they have been pictured at a number of events together and appeared on each other’s social media.

Including a snap of her and Glynne together as she cemented her new decade on Instagram, she penned: “They say you don’t get older, you just get better.

“Youth has no age... So let’s be having you 40.”
